Vanity of Vanities

For what would it profit us to know the whole Bible by heart and the principles of all the philosophers if we live without grace and the love of God? Vanity of vanities and all is vanity, except to love God and serve Him alone. This is the greatest wisdom -- to seek the kingdom of heaven through contempt of the world. IT IS VANITY... It is vanity, therefore, to seek and trust in riches that perish. It is vanity also to court honor and to be puffed up with pride. It is vanity to follow the lusts of the body  and to desire things for which severe punishment later must come. It is vanity to wish for long life and to care little about a well-spent life. It is vanity to be concerned with the present only and not to make provision for things to come. It is vanity to love what passes quickly and not to look ahead where eternal joy abides. Philippine Mayor Charged over Massacre of 57 Defenceless People

I woke up today with the headline of yet another politically related brutal and senseless killings of innocent civilians in my home country, Philippines, particularly in Maguindanao. " Philippine politician charged for murder " is the most popular news at Yahoo 7 (Australia) News beating the headline on politics regarding Opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull over the Emmision Trading Scheme that is jeopardizing his leadership. A witness claims to have seen Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr ordering killings and personally firing at convoy of journalists and political rivals. "He was the one who gave the instructions. He was among those ... who killed the victims," Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera told reporters as she outlined the case against Ampatuan Jnr. How would you react if you read these accounts? According to Devanadera "Even the private parts of the women were shot at. It was horrible. It was not done to just one. It was done practically to all t...

Oxymorons - Just for fun!

Dictionary.com defines oxymorons as a figure of speech by which a locution produces an incongruous, seemingly self-contradictory effect. Now, try these statements and find out if they are really oxymorons. Have fun! 1. Is it good if a vacuum really sucks? 2.  Why is the third hand on the watch called the second hand? 3. If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever know? 4. If Webster wrote the first dictionary, where did he find the words? 5. Why do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack? 6. Why does "slow down" and "slow up" mean the same thing? 7. Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean the same thing?   8.  Why do "tug" boats push their barges? 9. Why do we sing "Take me out to the ball game" when we are already there? 10. Why are they called "stands" when they are made for sitting? 11. Why is it called "after dark" when it really is "after light...

Farewell Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty

"We are sad to lose the presence of our pastor, shepherd, father and brother. We are thankful, however, for his life, love and influence on the individuals and ministries he inspired for the last 30 years." (statement of church leaders of Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma) I have not met Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty in person but he was such an inspiration and "a man of influence" to me as I continue my journey with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He and his wife Sharon host a TV program "Victory in Jesus" aired at Daystar Television. I used to tune in to their program almost everyday as I was enjoying my cup of coffee and preparing myself to go to work. He preached the Word of God with zeal. He was very passionate, honest, and practical. His preachings focused mostly in the areas faith, health and prosperity. It was an awesome experience to witness their ministry. He has touched the lives of a lot of people in Tulsa and  in various countries ...

Choose Today Whom You Will Serve

One of my favourite characters in the Bible is Joshua. I admire how he challenged the Israelites to choose whom they will serve. Joshua made a definite stand! A powerful one. Against the odds. He must have been rediculed, persecuted, and abandoned. His decision was unpopular to many people who chose to worship their idols, their wealth, their jobs, and their possessions. Joshua was a military leader, a prophet, a judge. He was a man of influence. A spy. A war strategist famous for breaking down the walls of Jericho. Joshua challenges us. No doubt about it. How can't you not be motivated by his famous words? Be strong and courageous! Be strong and very courageous! Fear the LORD! Now he asks us: Whom will you serve? Who will be your master? Who will be your King? You have to choose. This is my stand. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD! (Joshua 24:15) If you take that stand as I am, this is Joshua's instructions. “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from you...

Be Inspired: Team Hoyt Story

I have watched this clip several times and I cannot stop being inspired everytime I view the same again and again. It's a concrete demonstration of a father's love to his son. In my deep thoughts, I realize how God's love is being manifested to mankind. God offers a love more than our earthly father could give. God's desire is to lavish His unconditional love to anyone. A love that is beyond all measures. A love that is endless. A steadfast love. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, that  whoever ( that's you and me ) believes in Him (Jesus) should not perish but have everlasting life( John 3:16). God offers a free gift. A gift of eternal life, that is through His Son, Jesus Christ. It is not about the good things we do but it is about His unmerited favor, called grace, so that no one will boast. It's up for grab and all we have to do is receive God's gift. Truly,...

Give Me Jesus

I love this song. So fitting to the late Ruth Graham, a virtuous woman, wife of the admirable Evangelist Billy Graham. Watch and be blessed - Thor "Give me Jesus, Give me Jesus, You can have all this world, But give me Jesus..." Give Me Jesus - Performed by Fernando Ortega for The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association as a tribute to Billy Graham's wife, Ruth Bell Graham (June 10, 1920 to June 14, 2007). Directed by Kevin Adamson, Lighting and Steadicam by James Reid, Jib by Tracy Eakes, Edited by John Schroter.

Efren Peñaflorida : 2009 CNN Hero of the Year

“ Our planet is filled with heroes, young and old, rich and poor, man, woman of different colors, shapes and sizes. We are one great tapestry. Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need - Efren Pe ñ aflorida , 2009 CNN Hero of the Yea r ” What a great statement from a young hero! Truly, another reason for Filipinos around the world to celebrate a remarkable accomplishment of a fine young man. Efren Peñaflorida, you're the man! A true Filipino! Raising Kids: Jethro's Sunday School Creations

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. - Proverbs 22:6 I am always excited to ask my four year old son what activities he did at Hillsong Kid's Church. Sunday by Sunday, he has that prominent expectation and enormous excitement to go. He has developed that sense of connection with other kids, volunteers and leaders at his Sunday school despite the short period of time since we moved here in Sydney only few months ago. How awesome! At his tender, innocent, and very young age, he is now exposed to God's kingdom. He is now experiencing the goodness of God, the marvelous love of God, and that wonderful personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! I am really grateful to the Lord that I am raising a new generation in my lineage. My son is a Daniel who will defy the odds of what the world refers to  as normal. You see, these days, it is normal for kids to be exposed with violent, brutal, and satanic...

How to Get Into Heaven - Another Funny Joke But True...('',)

A man dies and meets the gatekeeper at the Pearly Gates. The gatekeeper says to the man, "Here's how it works. You need to have one hundred points to get into heaven. You tell me about all the good things you've done. They are all worth a certain number of points. If your total is one hundred or more, you can come in." "Well," says the man. "I was happily married to the same woman for 52 years. I never looked at another woman. I was attentive and loved her dearly." "That's great," says the gatekeeper. "That'll be two points." "Hmmm," says the man. "This is going to be harder than I thought. Well, I attended church regularly, volunteered my time and tithed faithfully." "Wonderful," says the gatekeeper, "That's worth another point." "One point!" says the man. "Okay, okay. I was involved with a prison ministry for twenty-five years. I went into the prison,...

Christian Humor : You Can't Outsmart a Little Girl

One Sunday afternoon a little girl was happily walking home from Kids Church reading her bible. When she arrived at her driveway, her grumpy neighbour noticed what the little girl was doing and asked roughly, "What are you reading, girl?" The little girl replied gently, "My bible. The part where a man called Jonah got swallowed by a big fish and God saved him." At this, the neighbour snickered and scoffed, "The bible is a made-up book! How could a man survive in the stomach of a fish?" The girl answered, "Well, when I'm in heaven, I'll ask Jonah." The neighbour laughed more and arrogantly asked, "What if Jonah isn't in heaven?" The little girl thought long and hard about this question then replied quietly, "Then you can ask him." Author unknown Source: from my mailbox

A Taste of Hell

Have you tasted Hell? Look no more, go to New Zealand! I love New Zealand. The Land of the Long White Clouds. Greener than where I am now here in Sydney, Australia. Famous for its white sand and clean beaches, millions of sheep, outdoor adventures, rugby (I'm a fan of the All Blacks), fishing spots, and home of Sir Edmund Hillary, first man to conquer Mt Everest. New Zealand was my home for the past six years and I can say, it's a country of friendly Kiwis - both the bird (kiwi) and the people. New Zealand has a very Godly National Anthem. The first stanza goes like this: God of nations! at Thy feet In the bonds of love we meet, Hear our voices, we entreat, God defend our Free Land. Guard Pacific's triple star, From the shafts of strife and war, Make her praises heard afar, God defend New Zealand I went to New Zealand last month and as I was driving in town, I found this bizarre looking shop. A black painted building with a sign o...

2009 World's Most Powerful People

Forbes Magazine released yesterday their list of this year's Most Powerful People in the World.  67 made the list mainly Heads of State, businessmen, religious figures, media heads and one drug trafficker. They ranked the individuals who made it into this year's list based on influence over lots of other people, financial resources controlled by these individuals, whether they are powerful in multiple spheres, and if the individuals actively use their power. I am not surprised to see US President Barack Obama to be at the top. After all he's commander-in-chief of the world's premier military superpower and world's largest economy. Oh yes, he won the Nobel Peace Prize! Age 48. A Democrat Leader with great support of party mates who are the majorities in both the US Senate and House . Do you think former President George W. Bush will top the list if Forbes did the list last year or 5 years ago? Leading about 1.3 Billion...

God of Wonders

“For me, the world of nature bears spectacular witness to the imaginative genius of our Creator.”  — Phillip Yancey , Christian author “What can be seen on earth points to neither the total absence nor the obvious presence of divinity, but to the presence of a hidden God. Everything bears this mark.”— Blaise Pascal (1623-1620), mathematician and theologian God of Wonders   Lord of all creation of water earth and sky The heavens are your Tabernacle Glory to the Lord on high God of wonders beyond our galaxy You are Holy, Holy The universe declares your Majesty And you are holy holy Lord of Heaven and Earth Lord of Heaven and Earth Early in the morning I will celebrate the light When I stumble in the darkness I will call your name by night Lord of heaven and earth Lord of heaven and earth Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth Precious lord reveal your love to me.... Thoughts on Personal Development

I came across an article entitled "The Power of Personal Development". It's written by Jeffrey Gitomer and was published in the SUCCESS Magazine. He mentioned about Orison Swett Marden, one of the founders of SUCCESS magazine. According to Gitomer, Marden have authored more than 40 books and was a leading positive-attitude genius of the 20th century. He was well-known before 1930. He was a founding father of personal development and positive thought. I must admit that I never heard about Marden until I read the above article. I am particularly interested in the words of wisdom that was mentioned. The thoughts are really brilliant, direct, and honest. It’s one of those meaty parts of a written work that I can’t wait to swallow it up and meditate its taste to my heart’s content. Here are a few of Marden’s words of wisdom from the book he wrote in 1908, “He Who Thinks He Can”: "Every child should be taught to expect success." "The man who has learned t...

A Father's Love

The love of God is unfathomable. It is beyond measure. It is endless. I found this video very inspirational. I have viewed it many times and I won't be disappointed to view it  again and again. I'm posting it for you to experience the love of God. I pray that as you watch this video, you will encounter God in a very special way. God is no respecter of people. He loves us unconditionally no matter who we are: a husband, a wife, a farmer, a teacher, a lawyer, a doctor, an atheist, a politician, or an ordinary people. I believe that every person is special in the eyes of God for after all, He created man in His image. His masterpiece.

ATTITUDE

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. Article written by: Charles Swindoll

Nobel winner Slams Bible as 'handbook of bad morals'

This is appalling. Calling God's word, the Bible, a "handbook of bad morals"? How  could Saramango say that? Did he read the "right" Bible? What's his motive? Of course, he is entitled to his opinion. All I can say is this: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Galatians 6:7)                           ---o00o--- LISBON (AFP) - A row broke out in Portugal on Monday after a Nobel Prize-winning author denounced the Bible as a "handbook of bad morals". Speaking at the launch of his new book "Cain", Jose Saramago, who won the 1998 Nobel Prize for Literature, said society would probably be better off without the Bible. Roman Catholic Church leaders accused the 86-year-old of a publicity stunt. The book is an ironic retelling of the Biblical story of Cain, Adam and Eve's son who killed his younger br...

A Remarkable Story of God's Grace

It says in James 1:2 - "Consider it pure joy, my Brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds." .... To count our hurt, pain and struggle as nothing but pure joy? As my parents were Christians, and my Dad even a Pastor of our ch urch, they knew that verse very well. However, on the morning of the 4th of December 1982 in Melbourne (Australia), the last two words on the minds of my parents was "Praise God!". Their firstborn son had been born without limbs! There were no warnings or time to prepare themselves for it. The doctors were shocked and had no answers at all! The whole church mourned over my birth and my parents were absolutely devastated. "If God is a God of Love, then why would He let something this happen? especially to dedicated Christians" My Dad thought I wouldn't survive for very long, but tests proved that I was a healthy baby boy just with a few limbs missing. Understandably, my parents had strong concern and evident fears...

When I Say I'm A Christian

When I say..."I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I am saved" I'm whispering "I was lost!" That is why I chose this way. "When I say..."I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need someone to be my guide. When I say..."I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong. I'm professing that I'm weak and pray for strength to carry on. When I say..."I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success. I'm admitting I have failed and cannot ever pay the debt. When I say..."I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect, my flaws are too visible but God believes I'm worth it. When I say..."I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain I have my share of heartaches which is why I seek His name. When I say..."I am a Christian" I do not wish to judge. I have no authority. I only kn...

Love and Time

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love. Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment. When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help. Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with you?"Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you." Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!""I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered. Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you.""Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!...
